Virtual Assistants - How To Find The Best Virtual Assistants

Be careful when you hire a “Virtual Assistant”. There are so many people who want to work from home now so be very leery.

The biggest thing you need to check is their resume. Make sure you look at the VA’s experience. If you need Word Processing done, and the Virtual Assistant can only type 35 words a minute, you should think twice about hiring them. Yes, you are right… people can lie about how many words a minute they type… but there are other things to check.

How many years experience do they have in their area of expertise? If you need someone to create and maintain spreadsheets for you, how many years have they used Excel? Definitely check their resume.

Also, check out the VA’s references. Some Virtual Assistants will not have references. They will just have a fancy site that looks good … and they will tell you they are real good… but they don’t have any information. So no proof that they are a good Virtual Assistant is no good!

Also, be careful about what the person says they will do. Not everyone is good at everything. Everyone should have an area of expertise. Some may be excellent Word Processors… but be horrible when working with Spreadsheets. Some may be great at making phone calls and others may be horrible on the phone. Check it all out. Talk to the person on the phone before you agree to hire them.

One of the biggest things you need to find out when hiring a Virtual Assistant is “How efficient are they”? I mean, you can give 2 people the same exact project and one person will get it done in an hour and the other will get it done in two hours. Obviously, you want the one who can get it done in one hour. Again, check the resume to make sure you see proof that they are efficient… and the references! If they don’t give you either, find another!
