Gaining Employment Via Recruitment Agencies
Category: BusinessIn my younger days I spent a lot of my free time sending out CV after CV to land a new job for myself. This was time consuming and in truth wasn’t a particularly effective way of gaining job interviews, let alone employment.
I would have mixed success when applying for positions myself, some times I would get to the interview stage, sometimes I wouldn’t ever hear back from the companies - not even in the form of a “dear Johnny” letter!
After being unsuccessful on a number of occasions, I stumbled across an advert in the local newspaper for a recruitment agency, who claimed to have a number of positions that I was interested in.
I hadn’t dealt with an agency before at any level as I had always associated them with jobs that would last for very short periods and not be particularly interesting or desirable.
Usually when you visit a recruitment agency for the first time, they will question you about your past work experience and skill set. With this information they will then check your details against those of any vacancies that they have on their database.
Take the questions positively and answer truthfully as the worker will need to build up a picture of your work history in order to find you a suitable placement. If your not particularly experienced, your likely to be put forward for less demanding placements, which are likely to be for short term periods.
Within a few weeks of attending an initial meeting with the recruitment agency I was invited to an interview for a position and was successful. The position was working for a small, yet successful information technology firm as a technical support agent.
This was slightly different to the work that I had previously been in and don’t think I would have got the job if I hadn’t applied via the recruitment agency.
Towards the end of my short term contract, I was offered the role permanently as coincidently somebody had given their notice in to the management. A lot of people will tell you that landing a good job is all about timing. In this case it was perfect!
So I recommend that you give your local Recruitment Agencies a chance and they could reward you with a prosperous permanent job!
