Are You A Shutter-bug?
Category: CommunicationsMobile phone manufacturer Nokia has released a brand new Beta application called Location Tagger which allows you to automatically tag your photo’s with the location of where the photo was taken. This is just a Beta application so may still be showing some bugs and problems, but it is available to download to your mobile from their website.
Now quite a lot of Nokia phone’s already log the country of origin for your photos by using the cell location on the mobile phone, however the new Location Tagger uses the built-in, or connected, GPS signal to add the latitude and longitude to the photo. This can then be used to show the location of the photo on a map, such as Google Earth - so that you can have a map that can show the locations of each of your precious photos. This will obviously be ideal for the well travelled to show off their many holiday snaps & let us know where they have been to - and this will no doubt make the less well-travelled among us thoroughly jealous!
While this will appeal to quite a lot of people especially the social networking crowd, and is bound to become standard on Nokia Series 60 mobiles at the very least, you should be careful if you install this as the location of your photos will be transferred to sites such as Flickr. Unless you are happy with your location(s) being broadcast to everyone, you should be careful when uploading photos to websites.
